Gordon W. Blackmore
Gordon believes that art requires perseverance - a willingness to experiment, try things out, and accept failure without giving up on the creative endeavour. Setbacks are part of the process. Gordon grew up on a farm and very early developed the farm-boy confidence that, really, you can do anything if you have the right attitude and the right tools And, if you don’t have the right tools, you can built them too, with stuff you find lying around.
Gordon developed his furniture-making skills at Regina’s Neil Balkwill Civic Arts Centre under the watch of artist-in-residence, Brian Gladwell. Gord’s work is influenced by the Arts and Crafts and Modernist movement and his collection combines traditions joinery with the practical requirements of comfort. Using recycled materials and other media, he harmonizes form and function. Aside from furniture-making, Gord’s pursuits include beekeeping and creating his line of fashion bowties [made from recycled neckties] under the brand Bow Nouveau. He’s the father of two boys and a devoted, if distracted, husband. Oh - he has a straight day job as well - in information technology.
Winter 2022 Gordon enrolled at the University of Regina, Department of Music, Art and Performance (MAP) Visual Art Department. Once semester down more to go.
